DOCKER RIVER BAND

Docker River Band (DRB) are a powerful five-piece outfit from Kaltukatjara (Docker River), a remote desert community near the NT and WA border. Surrounded by gum trees, red earth, towering cliffs, and deep cultural spirit, their music is rooted firmly in place - carrying the stories, rhythm, and identity of Country.

Led by Anangu man Roy Jugadai (guitar and vocals), an accomplished singer-songwriter, Docker River Band bring together a tight-knit group of musicians: Albert Porter (keys and vocals), Thaddeus Mitchell (keys), Peter Bennett (bass), and Dion Bell (drums). Together, they have spent years honing a distinctive desert reggae sound.

Singing in both Pitjantjatjara and English, DRB released their debut album in 2025 ‘W.A.Border’. The songs reflect themes of family, land, longing, and pride - carried through laid-back reggae rhythms, soulful melodies, and rich instrumental textures. Dreamy vocals sit alongside vibrant keyboard riffs and a solid rhythm section, creating a sound that is both grounded and uplifting.

Known for their warm presence and infectious energy, Docker River Band’s live performances lift spirits, bring people together, and leave lasting impressions. Their music is more than entertainment - it is a celebration of culture, connection, and community.

Over the years, Docker River Band have quietly built a strong reputation across remote and regional Australia, performing at a wide range of festivals and cultural events. Their journey has taken them to stages including Freedom Festival, Bush Bands Bash in Alice Springs, Desert Harmony Festival in Tennant Creek, Umberkuma Festival in Arnhem Land, Wide Open Space in the East MacDonnell Ranges, Parrtjima, and the Closing of the Climb at Uluru.

They have also connected with audiences further afield at All One Under the Sun Festival and Giiyong Festival in NSW.
